Hat Fair iconWinchester's Hat Fair burst onto the scene in 1974 as a busker's festival and is now Britain's longest running celebration of street arts and theatre. The annual festival incorporates outdoor and site specific works, musical events, spectacles and a children's procession.

Thursday 1 July

Inside Out Day Procession
The Inside Out Citizenship and Community Project where young people explore the working world around them with our drama facilitators who encourage a dynamic dialogue between children and adults.

Friday 2 July

Schools' Day Procession – From 10.30am
Hat Fair 2010 opens its celebrations with Schools' Day – a children's parade featuring many local schools and artists. Schools have been working with Hat Fair artists to create costumes, music and dance for their part in the procession. Beginning in Abbey Gardens, follow their journey through the town as they open the 36th year of Hat Fair's celebrations.

Hat Fair begins - 12pm - 5pm
Within the stunning landscape of the Cathedral Green and along the High Street the Street Theatre, childrens' shows, circus workshops and craft fair begins, and don't miss the stunning finale to the children's parade.

Featuring festival favorites such as Wicked Faerie and Circus Box, and many International performances suitable for all ages.

Friday Evening Programme - 6pm - 10pm
This year we have great pleasure in presenting a wonderful evening of new cutting edge, dance performance by a diverse range of British artists. This programme will be presented around the beautiful sites of Cathedral Grounds. Don't miss this fantastic addition to this year's festival, expect the unexpected, the beautiful and the bizarre...

Saturday 3 July

The Big Day - 10.30 am - 6 pm
Every corner of the city comes to life with site-specific shows, walkabout acts, street entertainment and acrobat deeds of daring, both absurd surprising and enchanting.

Starting at 10.30 am on Cathedral Green with the legendary 'Laughter Worskhop' with Australian Comedy legend Leeroy Hart, don't miss this wonderful and beautiful way to start your day and get you ready for what is to come.

Street Continental - 6pm-11pm
As we move into the evening, join the Hat Fair Street Continental with a carnival procession from the Buttercross, down the High Street to the Broadway, where you will find more Street Theatre, Walkabout acts, and uplifting music to get your toes tapping to wow you as the sun goes down.

To keep you all nourished there will also be delicious food stalls, barbecue and plenty of refreshment from the local bars in the area.

Sunday 4 July

Picnic in the Park – from 12pm - 6pm - At Oram's Arbour
On Sunday the majority of the Artistic programme moves up to a beautiful hidden Winchester park...

Join us in Oram's Arbour for the wonderful 'Hat Fair Picnic' with fantastic Static and Walkabout performances, food market, crafts stalls and children's workshops, bring your own hamper if you like..

There will also be more Street Arts performances around The Buttercross from 12pm -5pm in the town centre.
